Having left a teaching career, I now find that teaching others to weave brings me great joy. To that end I conduct workshops at various locations.   See below for details.

Coiled basketry workshop

Time:  10:30am to 1:30pm.

If you can't fit into those denim jeans anymore, fear not, come to  this workshop and you can learn a more practical use for old jeans!  

Using denim you will create a lovely little basket to take home. 

The technique you will learn can be used to make other styles of baskets. 

All  materials will be provided and morning tea

Coiled basketry workshop

 Restore your creative self in this workshop where you will coil (stitched basketry) a small basket using raffia.  Learn the technique and go from there!


Basketry provides both an outlet for creativity and a relaxing practice.  Using Madagascan palm raffia you will learn all the steps to create your own little masterpiece!  You can even add a bit of bling (either natural - seed pods etc or bright shiny beads).  Join me for a fun morning.

Fill that empty wall space with a creation of your very own. You will learn how to weave a coiled centrepiece, and learn a variety of techniques to frame your work to hang on a wall. No experience with basketry is needed for this creative activity.

Create and tame a little chaos, weaving cane into a basket or sculptured vessel. Create a Closed Weave Basket

Relax and learn while you create a sturdy closed weave basket.  Using a variety of materials you will learn a versatile stitch that completely covers an inner core giving the basket added strength. This can be applied to any number of baskets.  You will have the opportunity to adapt your design by creating handles or adding decorations. Morning tea will be provided as well as great conversation with basketry hints and tips along the way.  Notes and all weaving materials including a good choice of recycled fibres will be provided.  Join me to weave a melon basket (so called because it looks like a melon segment). The basket will be made using cane as the frame and Denim recycled from jeans for the body of the basket.
Let’s use some of the tonnes of waste fabric that would otherwise end in landfill.
All materials will be supplied, all skill levels accommodated. The workshop cost includes tuition plus all weaving materials including a good choice of recycled fibres. Light refreshments will be provided.

 “Wrestling with grapevines and wisteria vines is not something I imagined I'd enjoy, but at every stage of the basket weaving class, our tutor explained and demonstrated what to do very patiently and clearly. And she made it fun. It was a great day, and I had a lovely, very rustic basket to take home!”
