Having left a teaching career, I now find that teaching others to weave brings me great joy. To that end I conduct workshops at various locations. See below for details.

Fill that empty wall space with a creation of your very own. You will learn how to weave a coiled centrepiece, and learn a variety of techniques to frame your work to hang on a wall. No experience with basketry is needed for this creative activity.

Create and tame a little chaos, weaving cane into a basket or sculptured vessel. Have fun learning the technique of random weave. Relax and learn while you create a sturdy closed weave basket. Using a variety of materials you will learn a versatile stitch that completely covers an inner core giving the basket added strength. This can be applied to any number of baskets. You will have the opportunity to adapt your design by creating handles or adding decorations. Morning tea will be provided as well as great conversation with basketry hints and tips along the way. Notes and all weaving materials including a good choice of recycled fibres will be provided. Join me to weave a melon basket (so called because it looks like a melon segment). The basket will be made using cane as the frame and Denim recycled from jeans for the body of the basket.
Let’s use some of the tonnes of waste fabric that would otherwise end in landfill.
All materials will be supplied, all skill levels accommodated. The workshop cost includes tuition plus all weaving materials including a good choice of recycled fibres. Light refreshments will be provided.

You will have the opportunity to choose from a natural fibre (red hot poker), plastic (bread bags) or raffia. A fun and creative activity. No experience necessary. Bring your own drink bottle!

Weaving from the Garden No experience is needed for this fun and creative weaving experience. I will guide you through creating a twined basket/nest from natural and garden-gleaned materials. Along the way, you’ll also receive hints about harvesting and storing natural fibres. Notes and all materials are provided.

And she made it fun. It was a great day, and I had a lovely, very rustic basket to take home!”

Raffia is a natural fibre harvested sustainably from Madagascan palms. It is a great way to introduce yourself to coiling a basket. You will use both natural and dyed raffia and if you want, fabric, novelty yarn and other bits and pieces. Embellishments can be added and many will be available for you to use in this hands on workshop, and yes, you will go home with a small completed basket!
