Relax and learn while you create a sturdy closed weave basket. Using a variety of materials you will learn a versatile stitch that completely covers an inner core giving the basket added strength. This can be applied to any number of baskets. You will have the opportunity to adapt your design by creating handles or adding decorations. Join me to weave a melon basket (so called because it looks like a melon segment). The basket will be made using cane as the frame and Denim recycled from jeans for the body of the basket.
Let’s use some of the tonnes of waste fabric that would otherwise end in landfill.

Raffia is a natural fibre harvested sustainably from Madagascan palms. It is a great way to introduce yourself to coiling a basket. You will use both natural and dyed raffia and if you want, fabric, novelty yarn and other bits and pieces. Embellishments can be added and many will be available for you to use in this hands on workshop, and yes, you will go home with a small completed basket!
